Fun-Filled Summer Adventures for Kids in Les Gets, France!
Hi parents and carers,
I have seen many families posting on local forums looking for child-friendly activities in the resort. I can confidently say there's no shortage of exciting activities in Les Gets to keep little ones entertained, but these are not always clearly signposted or promoted to tourists.I thought I’d share this list of some of my favourite activities - indoor and outdoor - that will ensure your kids have an unforgettable summer!
1. Mountain Biking
This one might be obvious (they do get more niche after this I promise)… Les Gets is a paradise for mountain biking enthusiasts, and kids will love the thrill of riding through beautiful trails. There are plenty of beginner-friendly routes, and you can rent bikes and protective gear from multiple outlets around the village. For those new to the sport, many local bike schools offer lessons to get them started safely.
2. Lac des Écoles
This beautiful little lake is perfect for a sunny day out. There is an inflatable water park for ages 6 and up (or 120cm tall). There is also a smaller splash area for younger children, so they won’t feel left out. There's also a lovely picnic area where you can enjoy a lunch while the kids play. It’s accessible by the free bus from Les Gets town centre, though it’s not the most buggy friendly place once you get there. There is parking available nearby.
3. Nyon petting farm and birds of prey show
Though not in Les Gets town itself, for little adventurers, the Nyon petting farm and bird of prey show is accessible by bus (Y91 to Morzine and then the free local bus to Nyon) or by pedestrain chairlift. There is a small petting farm situated just at the top of the Nyon telecabine. There is also a soft play hidden in the picnic area beneath the La Point de Nyon restaurant.
4. Notes Cafe
Right in the centre of town there is a small cafe called ‘Les Notes Gourmandes.’ While from the outside this looks just like any other cafe, the upstairs mezzanine level is packed full of toys and board games appropriate for all ages. This is a really good spot to come if you want a little bit of peace with a coffee while the little ones entertain themselves.
5. Les Gets Cinema
On those occasional rainy days or when the kids need a break from the sun, the local cinema is a cozy spot to catch a family-friendly movie. It's a great way to relax and unwind after a day full of activities, and there are English language versions of children’s films at least one or two afternoons a week. 6. Mini-Golf
A round of mini-golf is always a hit with kids! The mini-golf course in Les Gets is set amidst beautiful surroundings, making it a fun and picturesque way to spend an afternoon. It's also a fantastic activity for the whole family to enjoy together.
7. Creative Workshops
Les Gets offers various creative workshops where kids can unleash their inner artists. From pottery classes to painting sessions, these workshops are a wonderful way for kids to explore their creativity and bring home a handmade souvenir from their vacation.
8. Hiking and Nature Walks
Les Gets is surrounded by stunning natural beauty, and there are plenty of family-friendly hiking trails to explore. Whether it's a short walk to admire the wildflowers or a longer hike to take in the panoramic views, kids will love the adventure and fresh mountain air.
9. Local Markets and Festivals
Immerse the kids in the local culture by visiting the village markets and participating in summer festivals. The markets are vibrant and colorful, offering a variety of local produce, crafts, and treats. Summer festivals often feature parades, music, and games that are sure to delight children of all ages.
10. Picnics and BBQs
Sometimes the simplest activities are the most enjoyable. Pack a picnic or prepare a BBQ and head to one of the many scenic spots around Les Gets. Let the kids run around and play while you relax and soak in the beautiful surroundings.
